How to Choose a Baby Bassinets: A Guide for Expecting Parents

Even before their baby is born, parents begin purchasing essential items, including a baby cradle. The baby cradle is a crucial tool once the baby arrives, but with so many types on the market, how can parents make the right choice? Let’s take a closer look!

1. Safety Standards

Safety should always be the top priority. Ensure that the baby cradle meets strict safety standards. Look for certifications and test reports to verify compliance with safety regulations.

2. Crib Railings

Opt for cradles with cylindrical railings. The gap between two railings should not exceed 6 cm to prevent the baby from sticking their head through. Although some parents may prefer cribs with intricate designs or elaborate carvings, these can pose safety risks. Raised or carved elements on the crib can easily catch the baby's clothing, leading to potential injuries when the baby tries to break free.

3. Surface Protection

The entire surface of the baby cradle must be coated with a protective layer to prevent cracking. Since teething babies tend to chew on things, the edges of the crib should have protective covers. Parents should be particularly cautious about metal cradles, ensuring they do not contain harmful elements like lead.

4. Bumper Pads

Soft bumper pads can protect the baby’s head and should be securely fastened around the inside of the cradle. Ensure the bumper pads have at least six ties, and keep the ties short to prevent the baby from getting entangled. Once the baby is able to step on the bumper pads, it’s time to remove them, as they can become a stepping stone for the baby to climb out.

5. Mattress

When the mattress is adjusted to its highest position, there should be at least 25 cm of space between the mattress and the top of the crib rails. The mattress should fit snugly against the crib to prevent the baby from getting stuck. A traditional cotton knit quilt is an excellent choice for the mattress.

By following these guidelines, parents can ensure they are choosing a safe and comfortable cradle for their baby. Prioritizing safety standards, selecting the right crib design, and ensuring proper mattress fit are key to providing a secure sleeping environment for your little one.
